From Backstage to the Big Screen: How RISKWORLD Showed Me Why We Do This Work

One of the most rewarding parts of working at CNTV is seeing our team’s creativity, planning, and storytelling come alive on the big screen, what I like to call the silver screen of the events world.

It may not be a movie theater, but when the lights go down, the screens go up, and the buzz of anticipation fills a packed general session it’s our showtime. That moment, when thousands of professionals gather to kick off the most important event of their year, still gives me chills.

From MTV to Full Sail to CNTV

Growing up in Wyoming, my creative spark was lit by MTV: Yo! MTV RapsHeadbangers Ball, and all the rest. That passion led me to Full Sail University, where I studied audio production and sound engineering. I still apply what I learned—how sound, visuals, and story can transform a moment.

CNTV became the outlet for that energy. I've always thought of us as a rock band, with our editors, producers, shooters, and storytellers working backstage to deliver unforgettable performances to live audiences across the country. And there’s no better example than what we just did for RIMS at RISKWORLD 2025.

A Milestone Year for RISKWORLD and for CNTV

This May in Chicago, CNTV had the honor of producing not just the Opening General Session, but three full keynote sessions for RIMS: the Risk Management Society during its 75th Anniversary celebration.

Under the visionary leadership of Gary LaBranche, FASAE, CAE, CEO of RIMS, and the unmatched drive and creative vision of Stuart Ruff-Lyon, Chief Events and Sales Officer, RISKWORLD was elevated to new heights. Their commitment to delivering meaningful, innovative experiences for members, exhibitors, and attendees was clear from the start and it challenged CNTV to deliver our absolute best.

Working closely with Stuart and the RIMS team, we didn’t just produce videos. We collaborated on run-of-show planning, script writing, stage management, and onsite execution. From introducing the new board of directors to showcasing award recipients, safety messaging, and daily highlight integrations, every piece was intentionally crafted to enhance the in-room experience.

Each day featured its own theme and tone, culminating in a final general session that closed with full-screen, cinematic-style credits. It was a thoughtful touch that gave recognition to every staff member, vendor, and contributor. It was Stuart’s idea, and it captured the spirit of gratitude that permeated the entire event.

We also wove in footage from our roving video crew, creating real-time content that helped attendees experience aspects of RISKWORLD they may have otherwise missed. This elevated the general session from a one-way presentation into a shared, dynamic reflection of the week’s most memorable moments.

A Standing Ovation Moment

I’ll be honest, the keynote videos weren’t easy to produce. Tight timelines. Complex technology. Lots of moving parts. But when we watched the final board introduction video play on the giant screens, we saw Stuart wipe away a tear of joy and pride. And when Freeman, the AV provider, reached out to congratulate us on an “incredible production,” it all felt worth it.

To put a bow on it? Stuart requested the video be played again on the final day.

“Best RISKWORLD ever,” he said.

That kind of feedback reminds us why we do this work. It’s not about the files, formats, or timelines, it’s about making people feel something, together, in a shared space.

At CNTV, we believe live event storytelling isn’t a side dish, it’s the main course. It’s what unites a room, inspires a first-time attendee, and reminds everyone why their work matters.

Thank you to Gary, Stuart, and the entire RIMS team for trusting us with your biggest stage. And thank you to our incredible CNTV crew for turning vision into reality.
